Five IRA dissidents have been arrested on suspicion of trying to bring explosives across the Irish border in Northern Ireland .

Shots were fired at undercover Irish police as they tried to carry out the arrests.

The incident began when police stopped three cars in Omeath, County Louth, just over the Irish border from County Down. The men were arrested and brought to local police stations.

Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern, who represents the area in parliament, congratulated police on the success of their operation.

Ironically, he had been meeting with his Northern counterpart David Ford just miles from where the arrests took place.

The Minister said: 'The gardaí and the PSNI (northern police) are working very closely together as is evidenced by what unfolded in the last 24 hours.”

Free the patriots...The only reason the Irish fight one another is because they cannot find any other worthy opponet!!
Sectarian tensions are once again becoming a problem in Northern Ireland and that is exactly what these dissident terrorists want. The HUGE majority of Irish people totally reject these scum. Fade away into the past where you belong!
If this New IRA group would spend as much time and energy trying to get what they want through political means as Sinn Fein is, the country would be much better off. The Irish people are tired of becomming targets of your indiscretions and stupidy. Wake up lads. Get a job and contribute to your country. If it's the excitement you want , go jump off the Cliffs of Moher. I'm sure you will enjoy the trip down.
It is sort f stupid for one part of Christianity to fight against another art when the qworld faces the spector of Moslem activity.
