Barbara Sheehan sentenced to five years for gun possession charges
Queens mother set to appeal
The Queens woman acquitted of gunning down her husband, has been sentenced to five years in prison and two years probation on weapons charges.
Barbara Sheehan (50) appeared at Queens criminal court on Thursday where the judge imposed a 5-year sentence relating to the 2008 shooting of her husband, Raymond Sheehan (59), a retired NYPD cop.
"I'm confident this will be Barbara Sheehan's only lifetime contact with the criminal justice system," Justice Barry Kron said,
Sheehan’s Irish American attorney, Michael Dowd, criticized the decision.
"I'm appalled," Dowd told the court. "But I'm not surprised in Queens County."
Despite being acquitted of the murder charges of shooting her husband 11 times, Sheehan was found guilty of criminal possession of a weapon relating to one of the guns she used.

"I've said a number of times that I was sorry for what happened to myself, my children and my husband," Sheehan said after the sentencing. During the trial the court heard the school secretary was subjected to a over decade of domestic and verbal abuse at the hands of her husband.
The mother-of-two is expected to appeal the gun possession charges. She has been free on $1 million bail since the week following her conviction.
After the sentencing Dowd compared his client to New York Jets receiver Plaxico Burress, who was handed down a 20-month prison sentence after he was convicted of a similar gun charge.
"How 'bout Plaxico Burress?" Dowd asked. "He plays for the Jets. Plaxico Burress gets in and out. She'll have to do five years before she gets out. Is something strange going on here?"
