Anti-Israeli mood rife in Ireland says new survey findings

22.2 percent of Irish would even deny citizenship to Israelis

More than one in five Irish people would exclude Israelis from Irish citizenship, according to recent research on ethnic and religious attitudes in Ireland.

As a group, Israelis had one of the lowest favorable ratings among the Irish, ranking 44th out of 51 categories.

In the study "Pluralism and Diversity in Ireland," the author Father Father Micheál Mac Gréil, a Jesuit priest and sociologist, found that while 22.2% of Irish would stop Israelis from becoming naturalized citizens, 11.5% would deny the privilege from all Jews.

“There is a real danger that the public image of ‘Israeli’ can lead to an increase in anti-Semitism,” Mac Gréil told The Irish Catholic newspaper.

Prejudice against Jews was strongest in the 18-25 age group, with 53.6% of this group saying they would be willing to accept a Jewish person into their family, versus 60.7% of Irish people of all ages.

Only 47.9% of Irish would accept an Israeli into their family.

The Jewish population in the Republic of Ireland is less than 2,000 out of a total of 4.5 million, says the Jewish Journal.

The Terrorist state of IsraHell was born out of terrorism .. I am trying to figure out how those genocidal freaks have been able to get away with murder for so long .. Their Bolshevik roots have no intention of wilting under public pressure/scrutiny that much is obvious..
zionism = terrorism. Israel is a terrorist state. But do not confuse anti zionism with anti semitism. Most Jews are good moderate folk, it's only the extremist zionist who wants to play the anti semitic card for their own ends.
Most zionist are terrorists.
Oh yes we're all terrorists including those of us involved in the peace movement. If you don't believe that Israel has a right to exist well then that's already a problem isn't it? Neither the Israelis nor the Palestinians are going anywhere. So, to quote Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who said it so well, "either we will learn to live together as brothers or die together as fools."
If you are looking for Palestine it's occupied by a terrorist state called Israel.
You are welcome Suviness10, CaptainCon can't handle dissention. He has a lot of growing up to do.

If you looking for Palestine you'll find it in Jordan.
Sully1167, THAAAANK YOU. Captain Con, 1) You got it wrong on the name: I'm a woman! 2) You got it wrong on the marriage thing and couples: granted there are some ultra orthodox Jews who 'berieve' their children marrying non Jews BUT, but but but, I married a European ROMAN CATHOLIC (read that again), who, because he married an Israeli citizen (and you better believe they knew damn well he wasn't Jewish) he got full Israeli citizenship with new citizen benefits! And he stayed as Catholic as the day he was born, and he was a practicing Catholic (was b/c he's deceased). I know LOTS of mixed marriages, they're all fine, with doting Jewish grandparents. So don't put a very marginal fantatic group as representative of a whole culture, to use your term. Hey I know a few other religions that have their share of fanatics, ring a bell?
Most people judge in fairly simple terms.Zionism'Israel jews judaism are all the same. Now if it was a footie debate or a discussion on who best plays fiddles and flutes refinement knows no bounds. In Ireland thats as serious as we get or where the best craic is and you're strongest currency is a good rumour.Be gorrah dats us ahhright
it seems most irish people are ignorant of what happens in israel, most think the palestinians were somehow deprived of their nation and therefore have sympathy with the arabs, however if they took the time to learn that this common perception is false and if they learned a little more about islam then they would see that they are backing the wrong horse, they should go speak to christian arab palestinians about who they fear more, israel or hamas
I wish someone would ask this clergyman just what his point is and how he conducted his study. Does he plan to do something with his "study" and can he give us areas where he conducted it. The inimitable movie star Danny Kaye, red haired and blue eyed, actually had to tell people he was Jewish as everyone thought he was Irish. Possibly there was no anti-semitism in Ireland because people thought they were Irish. You cannot pick most Jews out unless they tell you. There are some Jews who look more German than the Germans. I can only wonder if this clergyman has too much time on his hands to meander into such a meaningless but serious accusation. He should be made to back it up.
Misleading article. With only 2,000 Jews in Ireland.I have never even spoken to a Jew,not that I was aware of.How can there be an increase in anti-Semitism when there isn't any.To anybody who thinks there is name one instance in the last 60 years. I agree with deburca policies and actions of Israel isn't anti-semitism, it's humanitarianism.
The majority of Israeli citizens don't support Netanyahu's hard line policies. And being against the policies and actions of Israel isn't anti-semitism, it's humanitarianism.
Why don't you Irish worry about your own country. It's not as if everything is rosy in Derry or Dublin.
