The U.S. Government monitors Ireland’s mosques amid concerns over alleged Islamic ‘extremists’ operating in Ireland, the latest leaked embassy cables have revealed.
According to the cables, closely monitoring Ireland’s Muslim population of around 40,000, is a priority for U.S. diplomats posted in Ireland. They frequently sent detailed records to
Washington DC relating to suspected extremists and ‘radical’ Irish Muslims.
The dossiers also show detailed accounts relating to the leadership and membership of Dublin’s four main mosques,
Former U.S. ambassador, Thomas Foley, told officials in Washington DC, that the Irish government was being complacent in their efforts to pursue alleged terrorists, the cables revealed.

The documents were revealed among almost 2,000 embassy cables, attained by the Irish Independent from Wikileaks.
The leaked cables revealed claims concerning Ireland’s largest mosque in Clonskeagh, Dublin, which is run by the Islamic Cultural Centre of Ireland (ICCI).
The claims include the following:
*Members of the ICCI mosque celebrated the kidnapping of Irish aid worker Margaret Hassan;
*Children at a school linked to the same mosque mourned the death of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the leader of Al Qa'ida in Iraq;
*Some Irish Muslims felt the ICCI did not take a sufficiently strong stance against global extremist violence.
The latest Wikileak cables show that in recent years, the U.S. has become less concerned about the threat of an Islamic terrorist attack being launched in Ireland.
US Ambassador Dan Rooney told Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in August 2009 he believed “overall the Muslim community in Ireland is content and moderate”.

@mamaginnty, you're welcome. @GeorgeDillon - I assume your comment expresses your distain for Ireland's immigration policies. Hopefully, the Irish will deal with their immigration problems better than the U.S. has with theirs.

Well lets just take a look at who's been strapping bombs to themselves, setting off car bombs or hijacking planes in say the last 2 decades? There's a reason the term "radical Islam" is in the worlds vocabulary- if Muslims don't like it then police your own, speak out against violence, don't stand by while some Iman teists and turns the quuran into something promoting violence against whomever they decide they don't agree with and for God's sake if some guy draws a picture of Mohamad there's no reason for them to start issueing death sentences- silence is taken as being in agreement with what those nutt jobs choose to do or say. And for God's sake the U.S. government cannot keep tabs on all the nutt jobs here in the U.S. so they ain't exactly going to be doing a bang up job on those in Ireland.

I thought the land of my father's birth was a free country. From the comments it seems there is no freedom of religion.

Europe is still racist, xenophobic and Islamophobic. It is unable to forget and forgive the seige of Vienna in 1683.
I fully understand the FEAR & THE INFERIORITY COMPLEX Factor among some Christians / Jews & the Hindu Groups/Individuals when dealing with the subject of ISLAM.
Today the followers of All the Religions in the World are talking Only about ISLAM, because, it is understandable that You will only talk about SOMETHING WHICH IS TRULY HUGE / GIGANTIC & TREMENDOUSLY SUCCESSFUL, when compared to
ALL the other religions.
We will NEVER like to discuss about anything which is INSIGNIFICANT, but ISLAM
IS HUGELY SIGNIFICANT as the Fastest Growing Religion in the entire World, not
only Europe or America or Africa or Asia or Australia. ISLAM as a religion is Growing
Everywhere, by the Grace of the Almighty Allah.
This is not there in the case of other religions, because THEY ARE ALL OBSOLETE NOW. Only ISLAM is the One and Only LIVE/TRUE religion in this World, hence SPREADING.
There is a tremendous CAMPAIGN GOING AROUND THE WORLD TO DEMONISE ISLAM to put a STOP ON ITS GROWTH.
Please do not Demonise ISLAM, Read the Noble Quran to understand what ISLAM really is.

beware the formerly clean-shaven rag-head you knew who no sooner having been re-programmed//radicalised, sports a long, frizzy beard. That, tends to be a vital indicator. 'Succumb' to Alla h, no thanks, never! They must live by our unlovely constitution.

@mamaginnty - although there are 254 countries in the world, most sources say there are only 198 nationalities in the U.S. The number may be open to debate, I don't know, but 198 is probably close to being the correct number.

I would not be at all surprised if Islamic extremist are using Ireland. I believe it most likely has the reputation as a safe haven throughout the world and the IRA may even help.
I was in Ennis, County Clare, in 2001 and found it to be a very nice clean town. I returned in 2007 and found it very different, a more darker edge. Then I was walking down a street and two men came towards me. They were obviously of Arab stock and they gave me such an evil eye I was worried they might do something. They probably recognized me as an American and could not hide their hate. If there are people like that in Ennis then, yes, Islamic extremists could be there, too.

Ireland should monitor the jews very closely. They are infiltrating countries all over Europe and that is their plan. Next thing they will want is Ireland to honor their apartheid "Laws".
