Dancers from Trinity Academy of Irish Dance stole the show at  the Mid-America Irish Dance Championships late last month. In all, dancers from the school won 10 gold medals and got 60 qualifications for the 2010 World Championships in Scotland.

Natalie Howard, co-owner and Director of the Trinity Academy, was thrilled with the school’s success.

“The commitment of the dancers and their families this year is incredible,” she said.  “Over the course of the past year, we have put self-motivation and discipline at the forefront of training which has definitely paid off.  The dancing is beautiful.”

More than 1,409 dancers from 59 different schools competed at the Mid-America contest, which was in Columbus Ohio. The standard was as high as ever.

The dancers who qualify head to Glasgow in April for World Irish Dance Championships. 2010 marks the competition’s fortieth year in existence, and it is the third time Scotland has played host.

It's funny how some schools need to pat themselves on the back for the world to see, while others take it stride like true champions. The results from 2008 found another school who had 11 first place champions in solo and teams. Yet they took the high road and did not feel the need to "advertise" this success for all to see. I would say that a true champion takes the results in stride and doesn't feel the need to be patted on the back for success and to brag to all how successful they were.
Hi Ceiliman, Ceili dancing is alive and well in the Midwest. Our Oireachtas includes girls and mixed 8 hand Ceili and figure (Choreography) dancing. Trinity has won world championships in team dancing, but did not sent teams to Worlds last year. Many other schools in the Midwest excel at ceili dancing, including Cashel Dennehy (won 5 first place team awards at the recent Oireachtas), Lavin Cassidy and McGing.
IT IS A GREAT FEAT FOR THE SCHOOL AND ITS PUPILS,WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IS ALL SCHOO;S OF DANCE INCORPORATE REAL CEILI CEILI DANCING INTO ITS SCHOOLS AND IT SHOULD ALSO BE FEATURED IN THE FEISEANNA,THIS WOULD HELP TO BRING BACK CEILI DANCE INT THE WORLD AT LARGE,AS YOU ALL KNOW CEILI DANCE IS ALMOST EXTINCT AND ALL EFFORT SHOULD BE MADE TO BRING IT BACK,SO LETS STRT WITH THE CHILDREN AND THE PARENTS,IT WOULD ALSO HELP THEM IN THE ENJOYMENT OF IRISH DANCE AS A WHOLE,SO PLEASE EVERYONE LET US TRY AND BRING BACK CEILI,AFTER ALL TEACHERS HAVE TO BE ABLE TO TEACH IT TO PASS THEIR TEACHERS CERT. PLEASE ,ANTON
