Box office numbers for the Irish dance documentary “Jig” were quite impressive this past weekend - the film grossed a total of over $70,000 in five cities across the United States. The documentary, “Jig”, tells the tale of the 40th Irish Dancing World Championships, held
in March 2010 in Glasgow. The drama follows 3,000 dancers, their families and teachers from
around the globe as they descend upon Glasgow for one drama filled week. Clad in wigs,
make up, fake tan, diamantes and dresses costing thousands of pounds they
compete for the coveted world titles.
This feature length documentary was given access for the very first time to the little known world
of competitive Irish Dancing. “Jig” discovers a world of dedication, hard work, obsession and passion.
