Running for Concern

Bookmark and Share

Over a dozen runners put their bodies on the line for Concern when they ran the ING New York Marathon on November 2. In total, the athletes raised more than $40,000 which will help nearly 100,000 mothers and children in Ethiopia.

Concern's development officer Sandra Feeney-Charles had nothing but praise for the sacrifice the runners made - giving up valuable work and family time to help a cause greater than themselves - and knows firsthand the difference their efforts will make.

Thousands of children die every day from preventable diseases like malaria, pneumonia and diarrhea. Concern's Community Therapeutic Care model and Child Survival Program is tailored to help save these defenseless kids.

"They (the runners) were an amazing group," said Feeney-Charles. "While the children in Ethiopia will not personally know their benefactors, their gratitude will cross continents."

Concern's annual Seeds of Hope Awards Dinner takes place on Monday, December 8, at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. This year, Business 100 honoree Anne Mulcahy, CEO of Xerox, will receive the award.

As we go to press, it was announced that Mulcahy was appointed by President-elect Obama to the Transition Economic Advisory Board.
