U2 are music industry's top earners with $108m in 2009
All that you just can't leave behind!
In 2009 the Irish band earned $108 million, placing them above everyone else in the music industry for that year. This puts U2 at the top of Billboard magazine’s 2010 Money Makers list, according to the Associated Press.
Bruce Springsteen came in second, at $57 million, while Madonna was third, with a measly $47 million. Britney Spears earned $38 million.
Billboard magazine compiles its list of high earners from information about their tours, music sales and publishing royalties.
U2’s 360 tour, which hit America last year, was a large factor in the band’s earnings. Their dramatic multimedia performance was named North America’s most popular touring act of 2009.
This isn’t the first time the U2 have topped the money-making charts. They have already been Billboard Money Makers of the year in 2005, when their earnings were $255 million.
