Whipping Boy’s second album, Heartworm, was voted the best Irish album of all time

In a survey conducted by Dublin radio station Phantom FM, Whipping Boy’s second album, Heartworm, was voted the best Irish album of all time ahead of big names such as U2, Van Morrison, Damien Rice and Thin Lizzy.

Whipping Boy, formed in Dublin in 1988, comprised of Fearghal McKee on vocals, Paul Page on guitar, Myles McDonnell on bass and vocals and Colm Hassett on drums. The band created three albums altogether with their second album, Heartworm, released to critical acclaim in 1995 with the single ‘We Don’t Need Nobody Else’ later becoming the band’s unofficial anthem. The group split up in 1998 and reformed in 2005 and 2011.

They beat both U2's Achtung Baby and The Joshua Tree as well as My Bloody Valentine's celebrated 1991 album Loveless in the poll, reveal RTE.ie.
