Siobhan Magnus rocks 'American Idol' with Aretha Franklin classic 'Think'

Siobhan Magnus on 'American Idol'

Simon Cowell's "funny little thing" Siobhan Magnus, 19, took on Aretha Franklin's song "Think” and brought the house down with her crazy vocals on Wednesday night's "American Idol."

Magnus, from Cape Cod, impressed the judges so much that even as the show was about to roll the credits, Idol judge, Randy Jackson, was still saying how he couldn't get over Magnus "hitting the high note" towards the end of her incredible performance.

In her version of the very popular song, Magnus, tweaked it a little to suit her singing style and poured her soul into a performance that "Idol" fans will remember for a very long time.

Magnus took to the stage donning a blue dress looking confident and energetic, like a true "American Idol" champions, and the judges were suitably impressed.

Jackson said Magnus was "bold" taking on an Aretha song, but applauded her for doing so saying: "It was crazy . . . I love it . . .I really love it."

Ellen DeGeneres, a new edition to the Idol judging panel this year (she replaced Paula Abdul), described Magnus' performance as "huge," adding: "I just can't believe you hit that high note at the end."

Following on from DeGeneres' tune, Kara Dioguardi, a singer/songwriter and a very honest critic on the show, also said she was blown away by Magnus' chops. "I don't know how you hit that note but you did," applauded Dioguardi.

Cowell, who described Magnus as a "funny little thing" last week and again this week, was slightly tougher on the Irish lass but had this to say: "Again, I say you are very interesting and very very talented . . . for me it was a performance of two halves but you're good."

Magnus will find out her fate Thursday night when two girls and two guys will be eliminated from the show.

It goes live on Fox at 8 p.m.

Our money is on Magnus going all the way to the top.

She’s definitely a contender. Great voice, and her interviews are the best - they show a uniquely quirky personality and look. It's great that she works as glassblower, very 'Flashdance'. A couple of the other girls have equally powerful voices so the competition will be tight. I don’t think any of the boys have the talent to outperform at least four of the female contestants this year. Who knows maybe Siobhan will be the next American Idol!
