"Shame’s” Michael Fassbender named as Ireland’s movie hero
Versatile star on the rise wowing the world’s audiences
The film world's love affair with Michael Fassbender is unending. This weekend the gifted Kerryman picked up the Hero Award at the Jameson Empire Film Awards, an industry bash which took place at London's Grosvenor Hotel.
Fassbender, dressed in jeans, an open shirt and a form fitting blazer, won the award for his role as Magneto in the highly entertaining X-Men: First Class.
'This is kind of unusual, because the first job I wanted to do was be Superman, so a hero award is official now,' Fassbender said as he accepted the trophy.
According to the Herald it was a big night for the Irish, with 20-year-old Irish actress Evanna Lynch watching the film in which she starred Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part Two take home the top prize for Best Film. The County Louth native played Luna Lovegood, the eccentric but utterly brilliant young heroine, in the hit franchise that became an international phenomenon.
Having gone blond again, Lynch posed on the red carpet with fellow Potter stars including Bonnie Wright and Matthew Lewis.
Rising star Chris O'Dowd also attended the Jameson’s Irish whiskey sponsored awards gala.
