Pierce Brosnan says his heart goes out to the family of Roman Polanski who was directing Brosnan in "The Ghost," when he was arrested in September in Switzerland.

Brosnan stars alongside Scottish star Ewan McGregor in the film. It’s about a ghost-writer helping a former British Prime Minister on his memoir, who discovers dangerous secrets in the process.

Polanksi’s own secrets came back to haunt him this year. Swiss police arrested the director in September when he arrived in the country to attend the Zurich film festival. Authorities in Los Angeles had requested the arrest. In 1977 Polanski was indicted on six felony charges – child molestation and sodomy were among them, along with rape by use of drugs.

He pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl, and a judge sentenced him to a 90-day psychiatric evaluation. But after serving some of the time, Polanksi fled to France the day he was to be formally charged, and he has been in Europe ever since.

Last week he began a period of house arrest on bail on an astonishing $4.5 million bail after spending two months in jail. The Swiss government is deciding whether or not to extradite him to the U.S.

Many Hollywood stars have protested about the case and signed petitions on Polanski’s behalf. Pierce plays a former British Prime Minister in “The Ghost,” and he stands by Polanski.

Speaking to the press he said: "There's a sadness to the whole situation. What happened was wrong in every way, but I just wish the man well and closure for this time in his life, at this moment in time.

"He's a magnificent director. He's iconic in the world of cinema.

On  the film, which is adapted from a Robert Harris novel of the same name, he said, "I think we've made a good film, the cast is really top class and I just hope that justice will be served with some dignity and compassion, and swiftly.

"We had dinners, we talked, I met him before and we got on very well together, but I don't know the man.

"I certainly knew the history of the man, and my heart goes out to his family, to his wife and to his children and, as I say, I hope this chapter can be closed quickly."

Pierce Brosnan,i wish i could spell 'DUN DA BHEIL' but you get the idea ,
Yep if it was his daughter theres be no "heart going out to him" If pierce as sympathy for some dirty old )talented) guy. Then sorry pierce...too long in fluffy wuffy hollywood boyo! Though I do agree what's been 'quoted' here is probably from a fairly neutral stand point....if not bastardised by the press entirely? (I didn't see or hear the interview)
Pierce Brosnan needs his head vexamined. Roman Polanski fed drugs to a 13=yr old girl and then proceeded to RAPE HER both vasginally and anally and then fled to Europe. What a slimeball!!!
There goes my respect for another acting moron, who might try thinking along the lines of: "What if this was your daughter?"
Polanski should be in jail. What he did was inexcusable and would not be acceptable from anyone else. Why should his fame or job skills absolve Polanski from paying for this horrible crime. What is wrong with Brosnan? Does his "heart go out" for the 13 year old girl who was so brutalized??
I think Brosnan's responses were actually neutral. He often sits on the fence in regards to his fellow industry colleagues. He praised Polanski's work because that's really all Brosnan knows of him. He doesn't have an emotional bond to Polanski, and did not rally with others to free him, or sign any petitions. I'm rather surprised he commented at all; I suppose because he recently worked with the man. His sympathy is directed towards Polanski's family. As to Brosnan's moral compass. He is a devoted family man to his wife and children. He is a doting Uncle to his nieces, often giving them expensive gifts for their birthdays and holidays. Although not without fault. He tells the press "no comment" in regards to his half sister and ignores her in public, even while doting gifts on her children. So no one's perfect. But all in all, Brosnan is a good man, one to be admired.
What the hell does being a "magnficent director" and "iconic in the world cinema" have to do with drugging and raping a child? Brosnan must think being a "brilliant celebrity" makes one exempt from justice. These are the same people who'd be screaming for a head on a silver platter if a Catholic priest were involved. Hypocracy with a capital H? You betcha.
To me Hollywood's outpouring of support for this man is a powerful statement as to where their moral compass is pointimg...These are the same people who preach to the unwashed masses about how we should feel on social issues since " they " are (to quote George Clooney) "ahead of the curve" I guess pedophilia is acceptable if you are one of the Hollywood elite...
