New York’s Irish Arts Center has launched its first ever live CD which showcases recordings of various Irish talent from the annual Christmas celebration, the critically-acclaimed holiday concert celebration for all the family.

‘An Irish Christmas: A Musical Solstice Celebration;’ is the first album in the Center’s Live from Irish Arts Center recording series.

The album features Mick Moloney (Green Fields of America) and fiddler Athena Tergis (Riverdance) as well as old-time and Appalachian fiddler Rhys Jones, Filipino singer Grace Nono, singer Liz Hanley, button accordionist Billy McComiskey, pianist Brendan Dolan, dancer Niall O’Leary and The Washington Square Harp and Shamrock Orchestra.

Speaking about the album Grammy award-winning composer Bill Whelan said: “Here is an album expressing what Christmas should be about - celebration, the craic, good music and song, the closeness of friends and family, and the thought spared for our sisters and brothers on the margins of life”.

An Irish Christmas: A Musical Solstice Celebration retails for $16.99 and is available from www.irishartscenter.org or as an mp3 for $9.99 from CDBaby and iTunes.

An Irish Christmas, the concert, takes place at the Irish Arts Center (553 West 51st Street, between 10th and 11th Avenues; subway C E to 50th street) from Wednesday, December 7 – Sunday, December 18. The performance schedule is Wednesday to Friday at 8 PM, Saturday at 2 PM and 8 PM and Sunday at 3 PM and 8PM. Tickets are $50 general / $40 IAC members and are available through irishartscenter.org or 866-811-4111.
