The new musical “Once,” inspired by the 2006 Dublin-set Indie film, will now premiere off-Broadway in November, and not on Broadway as was previously announced.
The musical follows an Irish singer and guitarist and a Czech songwriter who collaborate to build a relationship through music in Dublin. During an eventful week the two meet and begin writing songs together, rehearsing and recording their songs to take to London in hopes of landing a music contract.
Through the music they write, the duo works through their past loves, and are confronted with their new feelings for each other.

The production will be launched at Off-Broadway's New York Theatre Workshop, a spokesman for NYTW confirmed. A Broadway debut was previously slated for the musical but it will have its humble start in the same theater as “Rent,” looking forward to eventually moving to Broadway.
Highly praised Irish playwright Enda Walsh (Penelope, Walworth Farce and New Electric Ballroom) wrote the play’s script, and songs have been penned by the film's actor-musicians Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova. The songwriters co-wrote the picture's Oscar-winning Best Original Song, "Falling Slowly," which is expected to be part of the stage musical.
The John Carney film will be directed on stage by John Tiffany, best known in New York for the Iraq war play “Black Watch” at St. Ann’s Warehouse, and choreographed by Steven Hoggett.
Fall dates for the off-Broadway production will be announced, according to Playbill.
