The new comedy “The Hangover” is setting summer box-office records.  In the movie, Bradley Cooper, who is half-Irish, Ed Helms and Zack Galifianakis are trying to piece together a wild night in Las Vegas with what seems like the worst hangovers in history.

Celebrities are always getting in trouble for their drunken debacles, so it seems only fitting to take a look at the five worst Irish Hollywood hangovers.

Lindsay Lohan

Lohan went from “Mean Girl” to mean drunk in no time at all. The Italian/Irish-American actress became known for her all-night partying and reckless driving. In May 2007, Lohan was arrested for DUI charges in California. The red-headed teen movie queen is now a gossip and tabloid fixture with her constant club-hopping and multiple stays in rehab.

Matthew McConaughey

Names certainly don’t get more Irish than McConaughey and celebrity hangovers don’t get more infamous than Matthew McConaughey’s 1999 arrest. Neighbors called the police to complain about loud music coming from McConaughey’s Texas home. Austin cops arrived to find the actor playing bongo drums in the buff. But it wasn’t the nudity that had McConaughey locked up, it was all the “green” police found in his apartment. McConaughey was charged with possession of marijuana, domestic disturbance and resisting arrest, but charges were dropped.

Jonathan Rhys Meyers

Dublin-born Jonathan Rhys Meyers may know a thing or two about hangovers. The Irish actor, best known for his role as King Henry VIII on HBO’s “The Tudors,” has also lived his life in excess, with three consecutive stints in rehab and run-ins with the Garda (Irish police). Meyers’ drunken and erratic behavior in a Dublin airport landed him a one-way ticket back to rehab in 2008.
