"Love child" is an interesting term since it seems to apply to children born out of wed-lock. Does that make a child born to married couple "hate child?" If so, it reflecks very badly on the 'sacrament' of marriage (or being locked in wed). Anyway, I wish the guy myu genuine sympathies. Van 'The Man' transcends traditions.
Who writes this stuff?!? No one is "killed" by a diabetic coma as claimed by the news link. They die in a diabetic coma. Second, Mr. Dervin writes a blood sugar of 426 indicates extreme hyperglycemia and extremely high blood sugar - they are the same thing. Childhood diabetes is very difficult to control, and requires diligence in checking blood sugars regularly, paying close attention to diet and exercise, and regular checkups. Obesity is common in uncontrolled diabetics. I imagine someone battling cancer may not have had the proper focus; and who knows what kind of support systems she had in place. Let us be very careful before we judge. This was a very tragic incident indeed.
It is not clear if they were aware of his diabetes prior to his death. If not some one was terribly negligent. If they were aware then he would have been on a strict diet and insulin regime. We are very sensitive chemical factories and the slightest imbalance can have a negative impact on our health.
I think that maybe the 'lovechild' moniker might be related to Van's denial of being the child's father.
so so sad he could of lived with the right medical care and his mother too.
The 'foul play' of the infant's death would be the weight of the boy at the time of his death. How the hell can any parent overfeed a baby to such a degree??? I'm sorry for their loss.
So sad!
As a diabetic, I am at a loss as to why this child wasn't checked simply due to his obesity which should have been an very clear indication that something was radically wrong. P.S. I agree with hollabackgurl - 'love child' is so old-fashioned as to be insulting.
"Lovechild"? What century is this Cathal Dervan? Why not call him Van Morrison's son without the shaming prefix? It's bad enough what happened without the stigmatizing nonsense of a previous century.
