Colin Farrell comes to ‘Pocahontas’ co-star’s rescue

Colin Farrell and Q’orianka Kilcher in a scene from "The New World"

Colin Farrell has joined his fellow activist-minded Hollywood celebrities in protests against the Peruvian government's actions against its indigenous people.

The Peruvian government, under President Alan Garcia, is auctioning off natives tribes' land to oil, mining and logging companies without their approval.

Q’orianka Kilcher, who played  Pocahontas to Colin Farrell’s John Smith in “The New World,” is leading the marches, dances and cries of protest in front of the Consulate General of Peru in Los Angeles.

In her blog Kilcher writes of how the indigenous people are suffering:

"I am saddened that the Peruvian government has waged war on its indigenous people’s basic line of defense, their VOICE, by aggressively suppressing the protests and accurate media coverage,” she writes.

“The Alen Garcia regime is attempting to null the truth about the exploitations and subsequent deaths of local indigenous peoples and is stripping their constitutional rights including the right to hold organized meetings.”

Kilcher and Farrell starred together  in the Terrence Malick-directed "The New World" in 2005. Farrell will be seen next on the big screen in September, when he stars in "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus."
