An Irish farmer told superstar Rihanna to ‘cover up’ after he saw her filming a video in his field.
Alan Graham had rented his field in Bangor, County Down outside Belfast to a film production crew but had no idea who Rihanna was.
When she began stripping down for the video the conservative farmer became deeply embarrassed.
"I thought it was inappropriate. I requested them to stop and they did," he explained.
"I had my conversation with Rihanna and I hope she understands where I'm coming from. We shook hands," he said.

He admitted he had no clue how famous she was "I didn't know who was coming. If the name 'Rihanna' had been mentioned, well, no disrespect but it wouldn't have meant anything," he explained.
"From my point of view, it was my land, I have an ethos and I felt it was inappropriate.
"I wish no ill will against Rihanna and her friends. Perhaps they could acquaint themselves with a greater God” he said.
Graham is a god-fearing religious man and a local councilor for the Democratic Unionist Party, according to reports in the Daily Mail.

I applaud Mr. Graham for speaking up. Sadly, too many so-called celebrities have no shame and will do anything for the Almighty Dollar. I guess Rihanna wasn't quite sure whether people thought she might be a tramp and figured she would remove all doubt

Her legs are really unattractive..best she keep them covered.

soccernet - the man is a Christian - Jesus tells us that a man who lusts after a woman with his eyes is already guilty of adultery, the bible also says women should dress modestly (as should men) (that doesnt mean frumpy - you can be classy and modest)

no, by embarrassing, i meant it's embarrassing that in 2011, even coming from an old farmer, that the human body, not even fully naked is seen as something offensive from one of our "countrymen". It's just the body, and it's not immoral or improper or unchaste to show it off. It's embarrassing to be represented by ignorance, naivete, or puritanism, whatever, albeit he's an old guy, so whatchya gonta do

Good for the farmer ! I have no idea what she sings and don't have any of her CDs but if she has to strip to make a video....where's the talent in that ? lol...I guess I'm old fashioned and love U2....By the way, if they decide to make a video and strip on this farmer's land....please send me an e-mail so I can come and see it, you know, before the farmer boots them off his land. Happy Wednesday ! :)

@Saoirse9: The DUP's notorious founder & firebrand preacher Dr. Ian Paisley called himself an Irishman and was proud of it!

"Rihanna..is one of the world's hottest stars" - oh please! Personally, I don't care for this pompous, egotistical, narcissistic singer. She has no real talent and exudes an arrogance that I find repugnant. And the world 'slutty' comes to mind as well. I applaud Mr. Graham on his stance for decency and would like very much to shake his hand when I visit NI next year!

"From my point of view, it was my land, I have an ethos and I felt it was inappropriate" Simply wonderful!

I was totally delighted that Mr. Graham and not Rihanna got all the publicity for describing her cavorting around his field as “inappropriate”. I think it’s a measure of the man’s gentlemanly qualities that he refrained from calling them what they actually were... p’graphic (ICentral won’t allow the full word!). I agree w/ posters below who call for such video makings for TV (including Brit Spears and Lin Lohan) to be banned because of the totally “inappropriate” dancing behaviour and costumes they wear to which vulnerable young girls are prone to look upon as something to copy and imitate. I’ve seen girls, some as young as four, imitating their suggestive gyrations. It’s sickening and has gotta be stopped.

Think he probably would prefer Ulster farmer lol and citizen69 re the MTV awards - they have already been caught out there with Northern Ireland`s alcohol licensing laws - they had planned to have an all night party after the awards but due to laws in NI they can`t.

The world is not in awe of American media micro-miracles.
Springfield9 | Sep 27, 2011, 11:32 AM EDT
Well, a decent man is a decentmanand they are damned rare. The fact that he was not in awe of "Rihanna" is no surprise. Moreover, he sounds practical and true to himself. He gets a thumbs up.

I Like to meet Mr. Graham and shake his hand. So nice to know there are good men who respect women.
citizen69 | Sep 27, 2011, 11:20 AM EDT
Seriously, she was making a promotional video for the MTV Europe awards that are being held in Belfast in a few weeks. This is really gonna make us look hip & happening!
mylesie | Sep 27, 2011, 11:08 AM EDT
Dont think our Mr Graham will appreciate being described as an IRISH farmer
Barbaracvm | Sep 27, 2011, 10:24 AM EDT
Good for the farmer. If more people / parents would not allow their children to buy the products of these people they would have change their performances. These women are the role models young girls fashion themselves after. Spears, Lindsey are just two. If all they have is such low standards to sell then it is possible they do not have any talent. The men watch/buy the products while drooling all over themselves. disgusting The girls dress and act from what they see. They think this conduct is becoming a lady. It is not. Parents need to more closely involve themselves to raise the standards of the family.
cindyohcindy | Sep 27, 2011, 10:22 AM EDT
mr. farmer, in the future always find out when you are renting a field, what it is going to be used for.. Glad to see money is not everything to everyone.. Thank you.
cindyohcindy | Sep 27, 2011, 10:19 AM EDT
Good job, standing up for what you believe in... See, when there is nothing in the brain, you feel you only have the naked body to show... Great strength, keep up the good work..
STEPcoach | Sep 27, 2011, 10:04 AM EDT
Good for him! I hope "soccernet" meant that her stripping was embarrassing, not the good farmer's righteous indignity. Since when did it become embarrassing to speak up for decency and good taste! I'm embarrassed that she's from America! But, honestly, a lot of our young girls have gone quite slutty lately, so she may represent the country fairly well. And I'm glad that Mr. Graham is representing Ireland so well!
Laochra | Sep 27, 2011, 10:00 AM EDT
This puritan would have made Oliver Cromwell beaming with pride. DUP = British, no doubt about it.
mcdolan | Sep 27, 2011, 09:37 AM EDT
Good man - videos can be outrageously demeaning to women!
Saoirse9 | Sep 27, 2011, 09:36 AM EDT
Perhaps because he isn't an Irishman; since when do DUP councilmen consider themselves Irish? He's British!
jjkleprechaun | Sep 27, 2011, 09:30 AM EDT
By being upset, Capmotion, he proved he was truly an Irishman! True Irishmen have consciences and are not afraid to profess what they truly believe in...it's a sad state of affairs when one Irishman criticizes a fellow Irishman because he believes in decency!
MalcomAC | Sep 27, 2011, 09:27 AM EDT
She knows she needs to strip to get attention because she's releasing her album the same day as Susan Boyle. L'il Susie B gonna squish that sucker flat.
soccernet | Sep 27, 2011, 09:22 AM EDT
How embarrassing for Ireland.
