Irish actor Ciaran Hinds (who is scheduled to star on Broadway this winter on a revival of Cat On A Hot Tin Roof) will shortly share the screen with Charlotte Rampling, Rufus Sewell, and Sinead Cusack for director Stephen Brown's debut feature The Sea.

Adapted for the screen by award winning Irish writer John Banville from his own novel, the movie tells the story of a man who returns to the seaside where he spent his childhood summers in search of peace following the death of his wife.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the new film introduces new talents Missy Keating, Matthew Dillon and Padhraig Parkinson and is produced by Luc Roeg and Michael Robinson, with David Collins of Irish production label Samson Films.

The Sea is an independent production in association with Windmill Lane Pictures, RTE, with the support of the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland and The Irish Film Board.

It will shoot for five weeks primarily on location in County Wexford, Ireland and is expected to be released in theaters in Ireland and the UK in 2013.

Producer Roeg said: 'I've wanted to make a film of John Banville's haunting and soulful novel for several years and it's been worth the wait. I'm excited to introduce a new film maker, Stephen Brown, to world cinema and I couldn't be more delighted with the cast and crew we've assembled together with our producing partners at Samson Films.'
