Chicago businessman Tony Saliba has bought the five-star Lough Erne Resort, in County Fermanagh for $10 million.

The resort includes a hotel with 120 rooms, two 18-hole golf courses, Thai spa, golf village holiday homes and a golf academy all set on the 345-acre site. In 2013 it played host to US President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and other world leaders at the G8 Summit. After the event bookings increased three-fold.

An avid golf fan Saliba is a former options traders and is rumored to have made over $1 billion on the sale of his trading software platform. He also has multiple investments in the United States including in the NFL (National Football League) and baseball.

The Fermanagh resort was placed in administration in 2011. It was initially put on the market at $16 million, a third of its worth. However, it is believed that Saliba purchased the five-star resort for between $8.3 and $10 million. The Sunday Business Post reported that the figure was closer to $13 million.

Saliba and his wealthy family are big golf fans and are believed to play at a semi-professional level.

The Sunday Business Post reported that the Saliba family were advised by Timothy Kane, of Tralee Portfolio Management, an aggregator of nursing and residential facility operators in the United States.

Saliba was one of the first traders in options in the 1980s. He was dubbed America’s “Market Wizard” with the release of the book of the same name in 1987.

Lough Erne Resort boasts a golf course designed by Sir Nick Faldo. It includes a hotel with 120 rooms, two 18-hole golf courses, Thai spa, golf village holiday homes and a golf academy all set on the 345-acre site.
