The sweeping view across the Atlantic from the famed Cliffs of Moher has been ranked the best 'cliff-view' on the planet by Conde Nast Traveler.

The respected travel publication has voted the world-famous County Clare landmark at the top of a new chart of ' Nine Gorgeous Cliff Views That Rival The Grand Canyon'.

The towering natural wonder, one of the most visited attractions in the country by tourists from the US, pipped England's famous White Cliffs of Dover into second place.

The magazine's smitten writers said: "Stretching for five miles along Ireland's western coast, the Cliffs of Moher are a sight more than 300 million years in the making.

"At their highest, the cliffs soar an impressive 702 feet above the Atlantic Ocean, offering the million visitors who visit each year incredible views sure to leave hearts racing (both from the beauty and the height)."

The praise for the Cliffs of Moher represents the latest in a string of accolades for attractions across the island of Ireland from Conde Nast Traveler.

In recent weeks, hopping across the stones of the Giant's Causeway and visiting Trinity College Dublin's Book of Kells were both voted two of the '50 things to do in Europe before you die' by the same travel publication.

And the publication ranked Dublin in fifth place in a poll of the planet's top 24 shopping destinations, behind Barcelona, Philadelphia, Hong Kong, and Chicago.

The Irish capital was also named one of the world's friendliest cities in recent months by Conde Nast Traveler.

Ballymaloe House in East Cork has also earned a position on the publication's coveted 'Gold List 2015' as one of the world's top hotels, while more recently the magazine's readers placed Dublin in the Top 10 best beer-drinking cities in Europe.

And last October four Irish hotels were named amongst its Top 10 European resorts.

Sheen Falls topped the list, with Ashford Castle ranked second, the K Club fourth and Adare Manor rounding off the Irish resorts in tenth place.
