Ireland is marking the 1,500th anniversary of St Brigid’s passing in 2024 with a special programme of events nationwide and around the world.
As part of the programme, Ireland's Department of Foreign Affairs brought together four dynamic creatives for a conversation on how female voices and perspectives contribute uniquely to the creative landscape in Ireland in 2024.
The discussion also touches on the historical and cultural significance of St. Brigid and provides an insight into the importance of community, storytelling and creativity in Irish culture and society.

Ailbhe Keane – Co-founder of Izzy Wheels
Founded by Irish sisters Ailbhe and Izzy Keane, Izzy Wheels is a company that designs stylish wheel covers for wheelchairs.
In 2016, Ailbhe chose to design a range of removable wheel covers that matched her sister's colourful style. The idea was inspired by Izzy, who was born with Spina Bifida and has always seen her wheelchair as a symbol of freedom but never felt it expressed her personality.

Alison Conneely – Designer and Creative Director
Alison Conneely is an award-winning designer and creative director. Her most recent collaboration with the United Nations Fund for Population Activities (UNFPA), HAIL THEE: We Come in Reveries of Change, launched in September 2022 to critical acclaim.

Sara O’Neill – Artist and Designer
Sara O’Neill is an artist and designer whose work has been featured in countless magazines, on red carpets, and major billboard and television campaigns. She was shortlisted as 'Designer of the Year' in the prestigious Irish Fashion Innovation Award in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

Grace Enemakua – Illustrator, Co-Founder DesignOpp
Grace Enemakua is an Irish-Nigerian, award-winning, multidisciplinary illustrator. She is also co-founder of DesignOpp, an Institute of Designers in Ireland initiative that champions diversity for People of Colour in the Irish design and creative industry.
