There’s something comforting to Irish expats about a eating food from Ireland abroad but there is something really special about Irish food and drink being celebrated in New York City.

On a rooftop in midtown Manhattan Irish food, drink and related companies will tell their tales, and provide delicious tasting menus at the inaugural FarePlate event. With support from ever growing companies like Kerrygold, Ballymaloe, Teeling Whiskey, ABP North America, and many more, FarePlate will celebrate Ireland’s food and drink scene.

FarePlate will give New Yorkers and Irish away from home to spend a delicious Saturday morning (Sept 12) enjoying tastings from expertly crafted menus and passing plates, to enjoy some mini-talks from the producers themselves including Teeling Whiskey, McGargles beer and more (for tickets see details below). From spectacular cheeses, to craft beers, whiskey and from Irish beef to honeys and chutneys, Irish produce simply stands out from the pack as something undeniably special.

Bridget Bray, the event producer, told IrishCentral that it was an exquisite bowl of minestrone in Castleconnell, County Limerick, that sparked the idea for this event.

“I often say it all started with the minestrone soup I once had a few years back in a pub in Castleconnell: Herbert’s. Not only was it the best minestrone soup I’d had but it was the quality of the ingredients that stood out.

“The brown bread was exceptional as was the butter and more importantly it prompted my interest to learn about Irish ingredients – about Irish products. I’ve visited markets, tried many an artisanal/craft food and drink product, dined in restaurants, bought cookbooks and can certainly attest the quality is exceptional.

“I then started to look at where and how Irish food and drink product were showcased in NYC and found that while many events and activities catered to Irish history, the arts, and sports I felt there was an opportunity to highlight the Irish food and drink story. Hence FarePlate was born.”

What’s in store will be an opportunity for those who are aware of the wonder of Irish food to enjoy something really unique and this event (tickets are limited) will allow those who are curious to explore what modern Irish fare is really all about. With experts and company reps on hand guests will also find out where to source Irish products around New York.
