Acclaimed Irish writer and director John Michael McDonagh will be reunited with Brendan Gleeson for his first feature film since his award winning “The Guard”.

McDonagh’s latest project, “Calvary,” is set to shoot on the east and west coast of Ireland over five weeks.

A dark comedy, Brendan Gleeson plays the role of Father James Lavelle, a Sligo priest who is plagued by members of his parish. Other big stars include “Bridesmaids” star Chris O’Dowd, Aidan Gillen from “Game of Thrones” and “Sherlock’s” Kelly Reilly.

The crew will spend three weeks shooting around County Sligo before they move to the east coast for a further two weeks.

The movie’s producer, Chris Clark of Reprisal Films, said he and McDonagh are excited to be back in Ireland.

“‘The Guard’ was a great experience and it’s fantastic to be back for Calvary,” Clark told IFTN.

“John Michael McDonagh has written another brilliant screenplay and we've got a great cast attached, along with another outstanding crew. We can’t wait to start shooting, to be honest.”

Filming is expected to begin this September.
