Jack Reynor in "What Richard Did"Element Pictures

Wicklow actor Jack Reynor, 20, has gotten the break of a lifetime for his new movie. Hollywood legend Steven Spielberg has cast him in the forthcoming US comedy ‘The Delivery Man.’

According to the Irish Independent, it is all down to the young actor’s performance in Lenny Abrahamson’s controversial flick, What Richard Did.

The Irish-made movie follows the downfall of a Dublin teenager over a single day as his life unravels, with the film reportedly loosely based on the assault on and killing of Brian Murphy outside the Burlington Hotel in August 2000.

Reynor’s powerful performance startled audiences and the film has been sold to Australia, France, Scandinavia and the UK.

Now Reynor will share the screen with Wedding Crashers star Vince Vaughan, 42, and gifted Irish funnyman Simon Delaney. Delaney, a remarkable comic talent, has watched his career take flight in the US, having completed stints in Julianna Margulies' series The Good Wife and Kiefer Sutherland’s Touch.

It is however a sheer coincidence that the two Irish actors had ended up in the same film. Reynor has told the press he is delighted to be working alongside Delaney. The feature, which tells the story of a man pursued by hundreds of children he has fathered through sperm donation, is being produced by film legend Steven Spielberg.

Spielberg was reportedly so impressed with Reynor’s audition tape that he hired the young actor straight away. Reynor then flew out to New York last month to begin filming.

The Delivery Man is slated to be released in October 2013.
