“Riverdance” Irish dancers to beat Guinness World Record for The Gathering

Over 2,000 Irish dancers, including the original “Riverdance” female lead Jean Butler, are set to breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest “Riverdance” in history.

Sunday’s event at Sean O’Casey Bridge, in Dublin, will mark the culmination of a weekend of “Riverdance” in Dublin. The dancers, spreading down the Liffey Quay will attempt break the current longest world record held by Nashville Tennessee's, with 652 dancers.

The weekend was launched on Saturday by some of the show's most famous faces, including Jean Butler and the show's creators, Moya Doherty and John McColgan. The weekend’s “Riverdance” activities will also include “Riverdance Masterclasses”.

Tourism Ireland will be videoing The Gathering event to showcase Dublin and Ireland to potential vacationers around the world. The Tourism group home to have the footage broadcast on top TV and media channels in over 20 countries, including Britain, the United States, China and Australia.

Niall Gibbons, chief executive of Tourism Ireland said “This weekend offers an excellent opportunity to showcase Dublin, Ireland and The Gathering to a huge audience of potential holidaymakers in markets right across the world

He added “Given that “Riverdance” is such a uniquely Irish phenomenon recognised the world over, this is a great platform for Tourism Ireland to shine a spotlight on Ireland as a wonderful holiday destination. Jean Butler is a fantastic ambassador for Ireland and we’re delighted to have her on board, helping to spread the word about the great many things to see and do here to people all around Canada.”
