The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences announced their shortlist of nominees for the 2013 Oscars on Thursday, and two natives of Ireland are up for awards.

Armagh native Seamus McGarvey was nominated for best Cinematography for his work on ‘Anna Karenina,’ which stars Jude Law and Keira Knightley. The film received three other Oscar nominations including Costume Design, Production Design and Best Original Score.

On Wednesday, McGarvey was also nominated for both an IFTA and a BAFTA for his cinematographic work on the same film.

McGarvey was also nominated in 2008 for an Oscar for best Cinematography for ‘Atonement,’ but didn’t win. In 2012, however, he did take home an IFTA for his work on ‘We Need to Talk About Kevin.’

Kerry native Fodhla Cronin O’Reilly was also shortlisted this year for an Oscar in the Short Animated Film category. O’Reilly was one of the producers behind the short film ‘Head Over Heels.’

Irish-English actor Daniel Day-Lewis scored a Best Leading Actor nomination for his work in Steven Spielberg’s ‘Lincoln.’ The film received the leading 12 nominations for this year, only beating out ‘Life of Pi’s 11 nominations.

‘Lincoln’ and ‘Life of Pi’ are joined by nine other films for the prestigious Best Picture award:  'Amour', 'Argo', 'Beasts of the Southern Wild', 'Django Unchained', 'Les Miserables', 'Silver Linings Playbook' and 'Zero Dark Thirty' are all in contention this year.

The Oscars, hosted by ‘Family Guy’ star and creator Seth MacFarlane, will air live on ABC on February 24th.
