In an attempt to wean herself from roles such as the adorable unconventional pageant girl in “Little Miss Sunshine,” Abigail Breslin will take audiences through her transformation into adult roles in the new film,  "The Class Project: How To Kill A Mother: The True Story of Canada's Infamous Bathtub Girls."

The Oscar nominated actress will play the lead role in the movie adaptation of “Infamous Bathtub Girls," a story by Canadian journalist Bob Mitchell. The film is based on the true-life story of two Canadian sisters who drown their alcoholic mother in the bathtub and with the help of their friends.

The sisters, who were tired of their mother’s alcoholic ways and abusive boyfriends, create a plot to kill her and do so successfully and manage to keep the crime under wraps for a whole year.

The role will be much different from the light Olive Hoover that Abigail played in 2006 but now at 15, the actress is ready to star in darker, more serious roles.

Variety reported that Stan Brooks is directing the film from a script by Fabrizio Filippo and Adam Till.

Breslin is set to star alongside Alessandro Nivola in Tribeca Films' "Janie Jones," set to premiere  October 28 and will also be in Garry Marshall's "New Year's Eve," which will be released by Warner Bros. December 9.
