Academy Award winning director Martin Scorsese has signed on to make a HBO documentary on the of 42nd president of the US, Bill Clinton.
Scorsese will direct and produce a movie which will explore Clinton’s “perspectives on history, politics, culture and the world,” HBO said Monday in a written statement.
The New York born movie executive has been a lifelong democrat and donor to both Bill and Hillary.
The BBC reports that the film director described Clinton as a “a towering figure who remains a major voice in world issues.”
“Through intimate conversations, I hope to provide greater insight into this transcendent figure,” Scorsese said yesterday.
“This documentary, under Marty’s gifted direction, creates a unique opportunity for the president to reflect on myriad issues that have consumed his attention and passion throughout both his presidency and post-presidency,” said HBO chief Richard Plepler.
In a statement Clinton expressed his delighted that Scorsese had signed onto produce the biopic.
“I am pleased that legendary director Martin Scorsese and HBO have agreed to do this film,” Clinton said in a statement.
“I look forward to sharing my perspective on my years as president and my work in the years since with HBO’s audience.”
Clinton served as President from 1993 to 2001. He was the first Democratic president since Franklin D. Roosevelt to win a second term.
