Lady Gaga scooped three awards at last nights MTV Europe Music Awards in Madrid.

The singer who is currently performing her Monster Ball tour, was not present at the awards but delivered her acceptance speech live from her show in Budapest, Hungry.

The pop sensation was awarded MTV gongs for Best Pop, Best Female and Best Song for “Bad Romance”. The pop princess was out of breath when she accepted the awards on stage in Budapest. She thanked her fans for their support and MTV. She said she was sorry she couldn't be there before signing off: “Thank you but I have to finish my show or they will all slaughter me to death,” the New Yorker joked.

The awards ceremony was presented by “Desperate Housewives” star Eva Longoria who had 13 different costume changes during the night including a huge leg of ham in homage to Gaga's infamous meat dress.

Shakira opened the show performing “Loca” with Dizzee Rascal appearing during her song to join in with her wrap.

The MTV Global Icon Award went to Jon Bon Jovi who performed “Shot through the heart” at the Caja Magica venue, which is  sometimes used for sports events.
