It's getting to be a little like the search for the Lindbergh baby, but we may have a winner. Casting rumors concerning The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the sequel film to Suzanne Collins' best-selling young adult book series starring Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson, may have a new star.

Although both Mia Wasikowska and former model-turned-actress Zoe Aggeliki are in the running to play Johanna Mason, a new tribute introduced in the 75th Hunger Games, First Showing is suggesting that the former child star Jena Malone (Sucker Punch, Saved) is now the top choice for the crucial role.

Malone is the right age, has an interesting look, and is very experienced in both drama and action roles ranging from Sucker Punch to her turn in the History Channel miniseries Hatfields & McCoys last month.

The book describes Mason as having 'a wicked ability to murder' with an axe and in possession of a ruthless will to live.

Mason makes Katniss (Lawrence) and Peeta's (Hutcherson) live more complicated than ever as they both return to the Hunger Games arena for the Third Quarter Quell, which brings previous victors of past games into the arena to fight again.

It's not been confirmed if Malone is really in the running or simply at the top of a wishlist, but think her potential casting just makes sense. Watch this space.
