Is 'American Idol' losing steam or is the worst economy in decades behind the decision to cut the 'American Idol' concert tour by two weeks?

The live shows featuring the 10 finalists from the last Idol season on will end two weeks early, it has just been announced.

The revised concert schedule posted by Live Nation, which is promoting the tour, just cancelled shows in Omaha, Kansas City, Winnipeg, Toronto, Buffalo, Cleveland and Portland. Eight others have date changes, so the tour will now wrap up on August 31 in Indianapolis.

'Idol' is hardly the first major tour to cancel dates this summer. The Jonas Brothers, Christina Aguilera, Rihanna and John Mayer are all among major acts who have dropped some scheduled appearances.

The tough economy is blamed for soft ticket sales. Maybe the 'Idol' franchise is finally losing some of it's steam too.
