Gabriel Byrne and Liam Neeson play prepares to open in NYC

Irish acting greats Gabriel Byrne and Liam Neeson are bringing the one-man show “James X” to the Bleecker Street Theatre in New York City beginning December 9th. The show, produced by Liam Neeson and written by Dublin councillor Mannix Flynn, tells the story of Flynn’s own experiences with “institutional abuse” in Ireland.

Herald.ie writes how the play is opening during a “particularly poignant time,” given the exposure that recent sex-scandals throughout the Catholic Church in Ireland have been receiving. "I believe it is now the correct time. This work predates what was contained in recent reports,” said Cllr Flynn. Those recent reports include the explosive Murphy, Ryan, and Cloyne Reports.

Cllr Flynn, who will be starring in the one-man show, has attained a personal file from the Department of Health, copies of which will form parts of the play, says the Herald.

Flynn noted how the Irish actors such as Byrne and Neeson were eager to become a part of his production. "This is a global issue and we need to be able to interrogate and absorb what has happened," added Flynn.
