The Irish feature movie, starring Colin Farrell, “Seven Psychopaths” along with the Irish documentary on emigrant in New York “Lon sa Speir” (“Lunch in the Sky”) are set to make their international premieres at the Toronto International Film Festival.
The Toronto International Film Festival is the leading public film festival in the world, screening more than 300 films from over 60 countries and is an important festival for breaking into the North American market.
“Seven Psychopaths”, starring Colin Farrell, Woody Harrelson, Sam Rockwell, and Christopher Walken, is the long awaited dark comedy written by Oscar-winner Martin McDonagh.
This is the second movie McDonagh has cast Dublin actor Farrell in. In 2008 Farrell starred alongside Brendan Gleeson in the hugely successful “In Bruges”.
The Neil Jordon directed “Byzantium” starring Saoirse Ronan and Gemma Arterton will also premiere at the Canadian festival. The movie follows two mysterious and penniless women who flee the scene of a violent crime and arrive at a run-down coastal resort, hiding out in dilapidated hotels.
“Lon Na Speir” tells the story behind one of the most iconic images of the 20th century – “Lunch Atop a Skyscraper”. A photograph which features two Irish emigrants from Galway.
Producer Eamonn O Cualain told BusinessandLeadership.com “We have been overwhelmed by the response since its premiere in Galway and are really excited in bringing the film to an international audience. It is a story of mass immigration and personal struggle, but at its very heart is the journey of two Irish emigrants who went to New York in search of work and became immortalized in the skyline they helped to build."
Also featured at TIFF will be “Anna Karenina:, which has Armagh cinematographer Seamus McGarvey on board, and the Australian feature “The Sapphires”, starring Roscommon actor Chris O’Dowd. They have already been chosen to feature as part of the Special Presentations.
The Toronto International Film Festival will run from 6th to 16th September. To check back on the full details of the their schedule visit www.tiff.net.
