‘Argo’ director Ben Affleck was among the many stars with ties to Boston who took to social media on Monday to express their shock over the double bombing.

Two explosions went off close to the finish line of the Boston Marathon shortly before 3 pm Monday, killing three – including an 8-year-old boy - and injuring at least 144 more.

Affleck, who grew up in Cambridge Massachusetts and set his films ‘Good Will Hunting,’ ‘The Town,’ and ‘Gone Baby Gone’ in Boston, reacted on his Facebook page.

"Such a senseless and tragic day," he wrote. "My family and I send our love to our beloved and resilient Boston."

Mark Wahlberg, who was born in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, tweeted: "Thoughts and prayers with my hometown Boston today."

Brazilian model Gisele Bundchen, whose husband Tom Brady is quarterback for the New England Patriots, also reacted on Twitter.

“My thoughts and prayers to everyone in Boston #prayforboston," she wrote.

Mariah Carey said her “heart goes out” to everyone affected by the bombings in Boston on Monday.

"So sad I am at loss for words. My heart goes out to everyone in Boston. #PrayForBoston (sic)," Mariah Carey Tweeted.

On Tuesday morning, radio host Howard Stern, who went to school at Boston University, said on his show: "I don't know why, I just never think of Boston being victims of some kind of act like this.

“But we're not safe anywhere and there's maniacs running around in our midst and, really, this kind of thing can happen any day, in any city, anywhere. It's awful."

Celebrities such as Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez and Rihanna all took to Twitter to express their condolences to those affected also.
