For over 40 years Blarney Woollen Mills has specialised in all things Irish. Just recently awarded the Tripadvisor certificate of excellence for 2015 Blarney Woollen Mills has established itself as a firm favourite with tourists and locals alike.

With a large catalogue of gifts ranging from Aran sweaters to crystal, Celtic jewellery and of course that fantastic Irish service. It’s easy to see why Blarney Woollen Mills is frequented by the millions of tourists who visit the country annually.

In 1928, a boy of 13, like most of his friends in Blarney, began working at Blarney Woollen Mills. His name was Christy Kelleher. Years later in his 50s, he would chance selling Aran sweaters to Americans visiting famous Blarney Castle. The business venture was a success.

And so when the ‘Old Mill’ closed its doors in 1973, Kelleher saw opportunity. It took a couple of years to do but Kelleher bought the building converting it into a visitor centre. Everything was put on the line. The fact that the business prospered was a testament to Kelleher 's dogged enthusiasm and entrepreneurial spirit. He was always there, with a kind word for everyone, welcoming the visitors and encouraging staff. Nowadays more than one million visitors pass through these old stone buildings annually.

One of the most popular souvenirs visitors pick up in Ireland is the traditional fisherman or Aran sweater named after the Aran Islands off the west coast of Ireland. Blarney Woollen Mills now produce their own Merino wool collection, with intricate stitch patterns and soft natural merino wool, a traditional garment with their own contemporary twist.

Offering a large range of capes, shawls they also produce their own exclusive range of Blarney Aran Original designs. Many staff have a claim to fame here at the Mills as wherever possible the Aran Original sweaters, capes and shawls are named after staff working at Blarney.
