The comedy gold of Julie Walter’s boarding house in the Oscar nominated movie Brooklyn will be the focus of a newly announced TV series spin off.

The box-office hit, starring Saoirse Ronan and Domhnall Gleeson, has been nominated for three Academy Awards – Best Film, Best Actress (Saoirse Ronan) and Best Adapted Screenplay (Nick Hornby). The TV series will be focused on the dynamic of Mrs Keogh’s boarding house, in Brooklyn, home to Irish English and American girls new to New York.

While it’s hoped that “Harry Potter” star and comedy genius will be on board but it’s thought that Oscar nominated Ronan will not be cast. A house full of immigrant women in New York in the middle of the century is sure to be a source loads more laughs and high drama.

Speaking to the industry publication Screen Daily, producers Finola Dwyer and Amanda Posey revealed that they’re developing a series based on the boarding house scenes in the movie. Dwyer said she had suggested the idea to Colm Tóibín, the author of the original novel, before the first screenplay draft of the movie had even been completed.

She said "We're talking to writers now and have a couple in our sights.”

Dwyer added that more concrete plans would be put in place after the movie has run in cinemas and the DVD is released.
