The previously unreleased film, The Rolling Stones Charlie is My Darling-Ireland 1965, will have its world premiere at the 50th New York Film Festival on Saturday, September 29 at 7 pm, according to Film Society at Lincoln Center.

Broadcast premieres and theatrical screenings are currently being scheduled throughout November for Ireland, the UK, and the US.

The film recreates The Rolling Stones’ weekend tour in Ireland a couple of weeks after the single (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction reached the top of the British charts. The press release says the film offers a behind-the-scenes look at the young band on the road and shows some of the first professionally filmed concert performances as well as high energy fans and some of the riots at their shows. The movie includes performances of The Last Time, Time Is On My Side, and the first performances of their hit (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction among other notable songs according to RTE.

Director Mick Gochanour and producer Robert Klein, who both previously made The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus  for screen, restored over 90,000 optical screen prints and negatives. They also used original sound tapes and 3-track live recordings.

An earlier 1965 director’s cut was only 35 minutes long and was produced by the Rolling Stone’s manager and producer Andrew Loog Oldham and directed by Peter Whitehead.

Footage showed interviews with the band members, jam sessions, hanging out in the hotel room and writing songs with Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, according to the New York Times. A later 1980 producer’s cut was extended to 50 minutes, which had limited showings.

With the addition of footage shot by Whitehead and first generation audio recordings, the 2012 film is 65 minutes long.

The 2012 film will be released in Ireland on Super Deluxe Box Set, Blu-Ray, and DVD on November 2 as part of the band’s 50th anniversary celebrations. The Super Deluxe Box Set includes extras such as more footage shot in Dublin and Belfast in 1965, articles about the Irish show, and photos from the Irish Photo Archive/Lensmen Photo Archive. The individual Blu-Ray and DVD editions of the film include the 2012 film, 1965 director’s cut, and the 1980 producer’s cut.

For fans outside of Ireland, there will also be a digital only release of the 2012 movie.
