Organizers of the Irish Red Head Convention have invited Prince Harry to join the festivities in Crosshaven, Co Cork, next weekend.

In a letter to Clarence House, festival organizer Joleen Cronin wrote: “We can assure you that there will never be a dull moment. As a fellow redhead you will be welcomed by the opportunity to partake in the annual carrot throwing championship, dabble in some ginger speed-dating and enjoy our night time antics throughout the village.

“You will of course be entitled to enter our redhead King and Queen competition, where two lucky people are crowned as the royalty of this year’s convention.”

The famous ginger royal, who was named the world’s sexiest red-headed man in a poll by the British Heart Foundation earlier this year, has not yet replied to the invitation, but Joleen, who started the festival with her brother Denis in 2010, expects around 500 redheads at the convention.

Joleen told the Irish Examiner that the festival, not in its fifth year, will be the best one yet, with many new ginger-themed competitions added to the program, which last year included a cook-off, pub crawl, and the world premiere of the film “Being Ginger.”

Not only is the event good craic, it is also used to raise money and awareness for the Irish Cancer Society, with €15,000 raised to date.

The Irish Redhead Convention will be held August 22-24.
