Neil Casey, a Longford man living in America, has decided to give his eighth graders a lesson in math and in hurling. Clocking in just over three and a half minutes Casey gives a succinct history of the Irish sport in the YouTube video, also outlining the rules and explaining that the sport was entirely amateur. “Though they may train like professionals…it is an amateur sport so you are playing for the pride of where you come from.”

Sporting the GAA jersey of his local club in Clonguish, County Longford, the inventive teacher asked his class to work out the number of times he solo-ed the sliotar (the ball) and what percentage of times he solo-ed it on each side of the hurley.
