The next generation of Irish rappers is climbing the ladder to fame as their song and accompanying music video "The Spark" goes viral.
Created by young rappers through the Kabin Studio, a not-for-profit youth and community-based studio in Cork's Northside, "The Spark" is being used to promote the launch of Cruinniú na nÓg 2024, Ireland's national day of celebrating youth creativity.
On Thursday, May 16, RTÉ featured a clip of "The Spark" in its post on X announcing Cruinniú na nÓg 2024, which will be held on Saturday, June 15 this year.
RTÉ's post on X racked up more than 3.7 million views and 11k likes in less than two days. Many are predicting that "The Spark" will become the song of the summer, while others are demanding that the absolute belter be released on streaming services.
As the post gained traction, RTÉ followed up to give credit for the song to producer Garry McCarthy (aka GMCBeats), The Kabin Studio, the Rhyme Island initiative, as well as the video's filmmaker Seán Downey.

"The Spark" was produced as part of Rhyme Island, a youth rap initiative powered by GMCBeats and the Kabin Studio in collaboration with the Creative Ireland Programme and Cruinniú na nÓg 2024.
In preparation for Cruinniú na nÓg 2024, the Rhyme Island team has been traveling the length and breadth of Ireland, holding a series of online and in-person workshops which will culminate in a massive day of rap back at the GMC Beats headquarters in Knocknaheeney, Co Cork.
Cruinniú na nÓg 2024 was officially launched in Dublin on Thursday. The event was marked by an energetic performance of "The Spark" led by GMC Beats ambassadors MC Tiny, 15, and Lil’ Sophia, 11 with support from the young rappers of the Southside Traveller’s Action Group.
On Friday, the team behind "The Spark" celebrated as the music video continued to go viral.
McCarthy said he's proud of everyone involved in the project, adding that he's "never bored" when he gets to work with "lil legends like these."
