Golden thatch running down windows, balconies off bedrooms, views over Kenmare bay; we’re pretty sure these are the most luxurious thatched cottages in Ireland and they are pure perfection.
We think we’ve finally found the Irish thatched cottages that will break our hearts. For many of us, there's not a hope that we’ll ever in our lives be able to afford these exquisite cottages currently for sale in Ireland and their lavish, heart-stopping views but sure, it can’t hurt to pine over the pictures.
Little Hay, Marianne's Cottage and the Garden Cottage were built in Kenmare Bay, Co. Kerry, in the 1990s by wealthy Danish family, the Hoyers, and while they are designed on a Romantic, traditional style, the interior is completely modern. To be honest, we think you’d have to be ridiculous if they didn't tick everything on your list.
The Hoyer's sold their nearby hotel in 2014 but held onto the three cottages and have been renting them out to tourists and leasing them out to the hotel since. The family has now decided to put two of the cottages up for sale; Little Hay and Garden Cottage for the grand prize of $2.05 million (€1.75) for the pair.
There is also the option to talk about buying the third cottage, which has its own separate entrance, bringing the price of the three well over the $3 million mark.
The listing for Little Hay reads: “A classic cottage, on the shores of Kenmare Bay, where bay windows invite in the natural light, and open log fires make everything wonderfully cozy in the winter.
“The entrance hall leads to a living room with bay windows, and a large kitchen/dining room that also has commanding views of the bay. Timbered ceilings and a solid timber floor, coupled with a 'La Cornue' range oven make this a country classic.
“The kitchen, in turn, leads on to the sunroom, where another open fire makes this a room for all seasons. Back in the entrance hall, a dramatic sweeping staircase takes you to the first floor, where the pair of double bedrooms is both en-suite, with exceptionally well-appointed bathrooms. Both bedrooms have balconies. The master also has a dressing room.”
As opposed to this, the Garden Cottage is “a single-story layout, nestled amongst mature trees. The main living space incorporates the kitchen, lounge and dining area, and the rooms have generous proportions, so even in this cozy space, there is a sense of expansiveness and light.”
Both cottages are located on the shores of Kenmare Bay and the views are just next to none.
“Although close together, Little Hay and The Garden Cottage are also private from one another, and both have uninterrupted views of the bay, and the mountains beyond,” the listing states.
“Both bedrooms have dressing rooms and ensuites, and everything focuses on the extraordinary views. The bedrooms, one on either side of the entrance hall, have French windows to the terrace, where your aspect is utterly private, right down to the water’s edge.”
