Tour highlights

This set tour takes you through an area with narrow and winding country roads and pretty villages with some quite remarkable stories behind them.

All you need to to do is sit back, relax and enjoy the sights. You will visit all the famous "bucket list" sites but the tour, as always, can be adapted to suit you!

Choose four of the six sites listed below:

  • Loftus Hall
  • Hook Lighthouse
  • Dunbrody Famine Ship
  • Duncannon Fort
  • Ballyhack Castle
  • Tintern Abbey and Walled Gardens

Loftus Hall

Reputed to be the most haunted house in Ireland, its reputation is well deserved! Hear the story of how the owner played cards with the devil, and how his daughter lost her mind as a result. Did the devil come because of what he did to those two Italian brothers…

Hook Lighthouse

The oldest lighthouse in the world, lighting up the coast for over 800 years. Its beam has seen many things, from the arrival of the Norman Invaders to pirates and smugglers, hear their stories on a visit here!

Dunbrody Famine Ship

A replica of the SS Dunbrody, a "coffin ship" that carried famine refugees to faraway America & Canada. On this guided tour, you can climb aboard and meet some of the passengers about to embark on the epic journey that sometimes took 3 months to complete, assuming, of course, the fever didn’t get them!

Duncannon Fort

An impressive star-shaped fortress perched on the side of the Hook Peninsula. This historic structure has gathered countless intriguing and awe-inspiring stories over its 450-year history including plenty of ghosts and confiscated pirate treasure! It also holds one of the best vantage points to take in the beautiful Waterford Estuary from.

Ballyhack Castle

A Stout defensive Norman Towerhouse built around 800 years ago, inside is an original Oubliette Dungeon. Find out from resident Guide Frank why these towers are so abundant in the South East and why they are nicknamed "the ten-pound" towers.

Tintern Abbey and Walled Gardens

This beautiful abbey is considered to be one of Ireland's most romantic ruins, built by the remarkable knight Sir William Marshal of the Knights Templar for his beautiful wife Isobel de Clair. The walled gardens, meanwhile, are like something from a child’s storybook! A gorgeous place to while away a few hours and sneak a few apples from the trees!

"I grew up in the tourism sector, my father a successful hotelier and publican in Dublin and my Grandmother ran a lovely guesthouse here in Wexford. It has always been my dream to establish a tour company that creates a personal connection with each of my guests, while showcasing the rich heritage and culture that is the island of Ireland.

A total history nerd and lover of all things Irish, I thoroughly enjoy gallivanting around the place, making memories and having new adventures.

Ever since I was a small child, I’ve adored the stories of the Tuatha De Dannan, Cuchulain, the Fianna and all the magic and mystery of my Ancient Celtic ancestors 1000s of years ago.

Living in Wexford has given me a deep interest and appreciation for Medieval Ireland, those dark days of conquest, when first the Vikings and then the Normans arrived, the witchcraft trials of Kilkenny, the Black Death and fantastic figures with names like Strongbow, Raymond le Gros (the fat!), Diarmaid MacMurchadha na Ngall (Dermot of the foreigners).

Growing up, my mother restored period houses, this gave myself and my two sisters a fascination of the Georgian and the Victorian era. While my father won many awards for his celebration of Victorian and Edwardian pubs. This era is so compelling, their rigid social hierarchy, the strict rules they lived by, and the intriguing lives of the rule breakers, the smugglers, the pirates and most importantly for us here, the rebels and revolutionaries like Wolfe Tone and Robert Emmet.

Five years ago, I began running tours for foreign students staying locally, I enjoyed it so much I left my full-time job to finally open my own company – Gallivanting Tours and so here we are today.

They say the past is like a different country, so let me be your guide as we travel back in time to ancient Ireland, you’ll be totally intrigued by some of the tales I have to tell you!"
