A replica of the jacket worn by the Irish patriot Thomas Meagher will be presented by members of New York City’s 69th Infantry Regiment, who are traveling to Waterford as part of the 1848 Tricolour Celebration.

The original 1782 jacket was worn by Thomas Francis Meagher during his own lifetime, and it is currently on display at the Museum of Treasures in Waterford.

Meagher wore an original club '82 jacket in 1848, the year during which he conceived and unveiled Ireland’s Green White and Orange flag, known as the Tricolor.

The original club '82 jacket will be replicated by businessman Tony Fitzgerald of Fitzgerald’s Menswear, who has agreed to reproduce the intricately tailored collection piece.

The 1848 Tricolour Celebration takes place in the city on March 5 and 6 in Waterford.
