The toddler was placed in an induced coma on Saturday night as she battled for life.
A 42-year-old Irish woman has been charged with the assault of a three-year-old girl. Gardaí found the toddler in a critical condition in Shankill, Dublin, on Saturday afternoon.
Emer Cannon, of Aubrey Grove, Quinn’s Road, Shankill, was charged with section four assault at Bray District Court and will remain in custody until Thursday when she will appear in court.
Gardaí were called to a house in Shankill at around 4.15 pm on Saturday afternoon and the child was taken to Crumlin Children’s Hospital with a Garda escort. Placed in an induced coma on Saturday night, the three-year-old is believed to be in a critical but stable condition.

It is reported that medical treatment was also sought for Cannon.
“At approximately 4.15pm, gardai attended the scene of an incident involving a child at a house in Shankill, Co Dublin,” said a Garda spokesperson.
“Arising from the incident a three-year-old girl was taken by ambulance to Our Lady’s Hospital, Crumlin.”

“It’s an extremely sad thing to happen. People are sympathetic, particularly towards the child,” said Fine Gael’s Jim Gildea.
