Steve Arrison, CEO of Visit Hot Springs and one of the creators of the city’s quirky St. Patrick’s Day parade, said: “With Danny Trejo as our official starter, that ought to scare off all the pretenders to the title of World’s Shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

“If they insist that their pseudo-parades are shortest, we will just email them a photo of Mister Trejo, and that should be enough to change their minds.”

Trejo might play the bad guy in movies and on TV, but he made headlines recently when he rescued children who were trapped in an overturned car.

After the incident, Trejo said: "Everything good that has happened to me has happened as a direct result of helping someone else. Everything."

Not only is @officialDannyT (Danny Trejo) one of the nicest actors, he’s also a #hero!

He was right behind a crash in Sylmar and pulled a special needs baby out of an overturned car. He distracted the boy until grandma was OK. ♥️ —> https://t.co/tS2Za4bZVZ@ABC7 pic.twitter.com/U9iLzAkHkA

While Trejo has been named the official starter, organizers have not yet revealed who their Grand Marshal will be.

The annual World's Shortest St. Patrick’s Day parade in downtown Hot Springs runs along Bridge Street and is only 98 feet long. The event, which began in 2003, draws upwards of 30,000 people to the city to watch marchers, strutters, dancers, waddlers, and floats line out for St. Patrick’s Day.

Parade organizers revealed on Facebook that Blues Traveler will be performing the night before the parade, and Foghat will be performing at the end of the parade route on March 17.
