A 13-year-old boy has appeared before the Children's Court charged with the murder of a Dublin schoolgirl.

Anastasia Kreigel was brutally murdered and later found at a derelict farmhouse in Lucan.

The minor was joined in court for the brief hearing by his parents and grandfather.  Due to his age, Judge John O’Connor made clear that no name, address, or pictures identifying the boy should be circulated on print or social media.

According to The Irish Times, the accused said nothing except to confirm that it was his first time in court. The judge allowed his mother to sit beside him during the hearing.

A second boy who was arrested has been released without charge.

Inspector Mark O'Neill from Lucan Garda Station told the court that the boy was arrested at 4.01pm and he made no reply when he was charged at Clondalkin Garda Station at 4.40pm.

Judge O’Connor said he had no jurisdiction to grant bail.

The boy was granted free legal aid and after a probation officer confirmed that a bed was available he was remanded in custody to Oberstown Detention Centre to appear at the Children's Court again on June 1st.

Kriegel was born in Russia and adopted at the age of two by her Irish mother and French father.

A postmortem found that she died from repeated blows with blunt force objects.

Police believe she was beaten to death with sticks, bricks, blocks, and rocks, the Mirror reports. She was found without her clothing, and it is believed she was a victim of sexual assault.
