A tear-jerking moment that went viral as an Irish lesbian bride sang to her bride during her first dance

The stunning bride sang Elvis’ “Can’t Help Falling in Love” during the couple’s first dance during the Cork wedding.

Heather (24), a professional wedding singer, had her bride, Lauren O’Sullivan broke down in tears immediately as she serenaded her on the dance floor at Blackwater Castle, in Fermoy.

During the link “take my hands; take my whole life too” Heather gave the microphone away and the 120 guests took over, using lyric sheets the sneaky bride had dispersed beforehand. Lauren (28) obeyed Elvis’ lyrics too her bride’s hands and the pair enjoyed their first dance… including a cheeky bum grab!

Most Nerve wrecking thing I have ever done singing to my Bride at the first dance! So glad it all worked out 😊👰👰💜

Speaking to PinkNews, in 2017, Heather said that although she is “used to singing in front of crowds” singing for her new wife “the most important person in my life, and my biggest critic – now that was nerve-wracking.”

She knew she’d made the right decision almost immediately.

Heather said, “Tears streamed from her face as I started to sing, and from that I knew I was doing the right thing.”

She said the plan “was a total surprise for Lauren; she had no idea about the first-dance song”

Heather had even lied about which song she’d pick.

“Initially when we heard it on the radio, Lauren and I both loved that song…As a surprise, I told Lauren I was going to pick the first dance song, and that it would definitely not be Can’t Help Falling in Love,” said Heather.

The couple had been together for four and a half years and this Elvis song “holds a particular meaning” for them.

She explained, “Our parents would say we have had a whirlwind of a relationship, between buying a house and getting married in the space of one year.”

Heather commented on the lines “Wise men say only fools rush in / But I can’t help falling in love with you” were “very fitting” for the loved-up pair.

The wedding itself was a four-day affair with Lauren’s father Joe leading the ceremony in the castle’s walled garden. He told the couple “Is féidir linn” – meaning “We can do” or “Yes we can”. Heather told PinkNews that the phrase, used in the 2015 marriage equality referendum campaign, resonated with the couple. On May 23, 2015, Ireland became the first country in the world to approve same-sex marriage by popular vote, winning 62 percent against 38.

Heather and Lauren’s moving video also comes the week when Ireland looks set to have its first openly gay leader of the government. After two weeks of campaigning, it seems that Leo Varadkar will win out of Simon Coveney and become the leader of Fine Gael and Ireland’s government.
