Rental prices in Ireland have officially reached their highest level ever. The average rent in Ireland is now $1,172 (€1,077) with prices highest in Dublin. The Daft.ie report the price of rent has increased to beyond that of the Celtic Tiger period. This is largely down to a lack of properties on the market also. The study showed there is only 3,600 properties listed for rental right now, which is down from 6,000 in 2014. Sadly all of this is “having a disastrous effect on social cohesion as well as on Irish competitiveness” and the study also notes that “the complete absence of any meaningful level of construction over the past five years is a systemic failure in desperate need of policy solutions.”

All that aside we decided it’d be fun to take a look at what is on the market around the country. The average prices around Ireland differ from area to area but here’s a breakdown of the highlights:

Dublin - $1,715 (€1,580)

Cork - $1,180 (€1,087)

Galway - $1,044 (€962)

Limerick - $936 (€862)

Waterford - $798 (€735)

Rest of the country- $829 (€764)

*The index is based on asking rents for properties advertised to let on Daft.ie.
