Micahel Palin, "Monty Phyton" actor, described the rail journey between Derry and Coleraine in Northern Ireland as "one of the most beautiful rail journeys in the world.

Palin's comments are being used by travel bureau Tanslink to promote a new travel guide to encourage people in the area to visit the county.

Louise Scott, Translink brand manager, said: "We have worked together with local councils, Derry Visitor & Convention Bureau, the National Trust, Derry's White Horse Hotel, iLex and Causeway Coast and Glens Tourism to showcase this area.

"Whether it's a couple's retreat, an excursion with friends or a family day trip, this new travel guide sets out just how much there is to see and do in this beautiful region of Northern Ireland: from the vibrant walled City of Derry to the peaceful golden sands of Benone Strand; the impressive Binevenagh Mountain and cliffs at Downhill featuring Ireland's longest railway tunnels to the charm of old and new found side by side in Coleraine."

The train journey shares with passengers stunning views of the Irish coast. It passes never ending estuary's and beaches with miles of sand.

Scott added: "The attractive new guide provides tourism information on the area along with train and bus information including discounted ticket options. We hope that both visitors to Northern Ireland and those looking for a fun 'staycation' will make this exciting journey to explore the North Coast and the City of Derry and enjoy a memorable day out."
